The bus was packed tight as was our luggage. The ride to the group home was slow, stop and go. The air was thick with exhaust fumes from the traffic and my lungs choked against the weight of the smog.
The city was full of people. There were beautiful sections of the city that were modern and other sections that were run down and dirty. The contrast was remarkable, but saddening. Everywhere we went, there was a sense of sadness, but our team was happy to be there to take it all in. In an earlier post, I mentioned how a simple waive and a smile seemed to bring joy to others around us.
When we arrived at the Group Home, everything was prepared for us. We had bunks with beds made and towels set out for us to use. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean and we quickly made ourselves at home there.
Rudy and Sully Rojas have done a fantastic job with the place, having started many years ago and building as God provided, they’ve managed to build debt free and have constructed a place perfectly suitable for the ongoing work in Guatemala City. Sometimes God provides the money, sometimes the muscle, and sometimes the things. He has blessed the work of this family with just what was needed at the right time.
God always faithfully provides what’s needed at the right time. Mark Wallace, Director of CH Global, shared a similar story with me later in the week about the work they are doing across the world.
This is a witness and a testament to God’s unrelenting faithfulness.
The LORD protects the foreigners.
He defends the orphans and widows,
but he blocks the way of the wicked. — Ps 146:9
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.-Philippians 4:19
