This week, we covered Chapter 1 and reviewed our values.
We discussed character education and where we are today with it in schools.
We also talked about routers and setting up security in our homes to control access. Some of the issues we discussed were around how difficult it can be to control access to wireless when there are lots of open access wireless networks, some even in our neighbors homes. It’s not uncommon for children to share phones as well.
We also discussed ways children get around parents knowing about their content. One key takeaway is to set an expectation for our children that there are no “safe spaces” on the internet or online. They should know that they can be and are being watched and recorded in everything they do. There should be no expectation of privacy when dealing with any sort of technology, including television, video games, computers and phones.
