Shoe Day

Today we delivered over 50 pair of shoes to the Bosco Orphanage children. Each child was able to buy a pair of school shoes and a second pair within their budget.

It was one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had in working with these kids seeing their eyes light up as they got to pick their shoes and have something that was special for them.

Our hope is that these kids will be able to enjoy their days at school and be comfortable in a good pair of shoes that will last the year.

The orphanage had to make three trips with all of the kids so there was a lot of waiting.

Thank you to all of you who donated funds and/or purchased/ordered pens to help meet this need. I just wish you could have been there to see the joy that you brought to these children. They all came up and gave us hugs and said thank you.

Checking out, we filled the counter!

Thank you: Willard, John, Patricia, Jay, Terry, Mona, Detta, Royce & Jamie, as well as The Pointe Church in Belmont, NC for offsetting a significant part of our travel budget that made it possible for us to meet the needs of every one of the children.

While the kids were in school, Gordon and I struggled to fix some electrical issues in the boys dormitory. The overhead lights need an electrician to help diagnose and fix the problem. I didn’t hav ether tools to find the break in the circuit. We made some changes and added some outdoor covers to some exposed electrical switches which should have been easy. Everything here seems to take longer and generally moves at a different pace that requires more tenacity, patience and creativity.

In the end, it was one of my best days ever serving these children.
