I don’t mean you are my one. I mean you are His ONE.
Let me explain. Earlier this week I was lying in bed in the early morning hours. It’s that time of day I wake up and wish I could go back to sleep, but instead I just spend the time lying there. I often spend this time talking with God. It’s one of my intimate moments with him when I share my thoughts of the coming day and the people I’ll be interacting with.”
I often ask him what we’ll do today, or who will we help, or can he help this person or that person through such and such. This particular morning I was reaching out to him about this blog and my writing. I wasn’t sure I was reaching anyone and I was asking him why I should do this and is this really important. Those kinds of questions.
His answer was, “because of the one”.
“What???” I asked.
“It’s because of the ONE.”
What I understood in that moment is that God is a God of every one, not a God of everyone. He wasn’t saying that he doesn’t work through mass media because he does, but he prefers to work with each individual person. He wants to know each and every one.
I often ask my group of middle school boys questions like this: How many people do you know? How many can you name by name? Can you tell me what school the go to or where they went? What about the names of their parents, brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles? Can you name every person that lives in this town? What about the county? The country? The world?… that’s ever existed? Can you tell me what they did on any particular day at a specific hour and minute…. for every day of their entire life? Do you know what’s important to them, their life goals and what they like on their ice cream?
God can. That’s how big a God he is. But he doesn’t want to know “all” of us. He wants to know you, one on one, intimately as a friend, as close as a brother that knows all your secrets and loves you anyway.
He’s concerned with being your “One”.
